ABOUT US

Since 1992 Grassroots has been in Luton, running ecumenical, educational and inter faith programmes, working alongside churches in their mission and ministry, supporting community initiatives, and providing interfaith work to build a plural society in Luton and around the UK. Differences and diversity have played a fundamental part in Grassroots work of promoting social inclusion and a spirituality of justice for peace. Grassroots has provided in dialogue with the Churches and World Religions, a sharp edge of engagement with contemporary issues. We are:

  • Seeking to build a world that is more inclusive, peaceful, sustainable and holistic.

  • Involved in building better understanding between those of different faiths.

  • Working with those who are excluded and seek to enable them to gain the skills, awareness and confidence to improve their lives.

  • Concerned with finding an alternative to an economic system that puts profit before people.

  • Encouraging a process of mutual learning through which all can give and all can receive.

  • From different Christian traditions and believe that faith should be engaged in the issues of the world.

As an ecumenical missionary initiative, we have been more and more in contact with churches and all faith communities on both at local and national levels. In view of the Anglican-Methodist Covenant and ecumenical informal conversations with URC, we feel we typify the general direction Churches are moving into. However, we continue to focus upon the issues faced by the faith communities in Luton, and learn from our long term commitment to work with those on the margins.
