INTER FAITH RELATIONS

Working with different faith communities and LCOF (Luton Council of Faiths), while continuing to support people from both within and outside the Church, we at Grassroots have come to realise that engagement with other faiths and cultures is no longer a choice. In the given context of Luton, where migration from across and within continents seems never ending, we meet strangers every day.

In an ever increasingly busy world, it is time for ‘breaking and sharing the word in action’ with all of God’s peoples, amongst all of God’s peoples. Our call to mission is to share our ‘God of Love and the Love of God’.

Grassroots gave birth to Luton Council of Faiths (LCOF) and continue to mentor it, often organising events and activities in partnership, such as:

Annual Faith Walks School Competitions (on themes such as ‘Our World’ and ‘My Luton’)

  • Annual Conferences (on themes such as ‘Community Cohesion in Luton’ & ‘Plural Britain: Challenges & Prospects’)

  • Youth Conferences (such as ‘Letz Face It Together’ & ‘Speak Out’)

  • Inter-cultural and inter-faith exchange visits and events

  • Learning opportunities to enhance mutual appreciation and befriending

Faith & Citizenship

Focusing on youth and women in particular, this project is all about exploring attitudes towards a sense of place, identity, belonging, engagement and participation in multi-faith, multi-cultural Britain, and thereby sharing the importance of co-existence as British citizens, of different faiths or of no religious commitment at all.

Faith Woodlands

An area of Maulden Woods, provided by the Forestry Commission, has been developed by all faith communities as a permanent spiritual and educational space, with the creation of paths, a Sacred Space for use by all for prayer, contemplation and meditation, a labyrinth, and explanatory signs. The exciting new Faith Woodlands project aims to promote mutual understanding between people of all faiths, through the common ground of the natural world. Everyone is welcome to discover the peace and pleasure of relaxing and thinking in Maulden Woods, and enjoying interesting, healthy walks away from the stress of modern life.
